How Do They Do It?

Hardware

• Texaco uses Silicon Graphics® machines to do some CAD/CAM manufacturing work designing oil rigs, pumps, etc. to ensure the highest level of safety and efficiency. Texaco has implemented Silicon Graphics' technology in such a way that Texaco employees can use their intranet to do actual walk-throughs of oil rigs thousands of miles away.

Proprietary software

• Using Alias® software, the Silicon Graphics machines assist with the computer-aided design of structures such as offshore oil rigs and plant equipment, and pumps, as well as appropriate safety and design plans. Texaco has developed proprietary software and integrates well with third-party applications, as well as strongly leveraging Open Inventortm in its software environment.
